Who You’re Not

Hello Ladies! Compliments of the season! We have called ourselves to arms, addressed the enemy within, taken an introspective look at our scars, so we can resume our battle stations; and assessed our arsenal! Then we had a look inwards. We had a gander about what it means to respect ourselves, really see ourselves. We got a ‘gentle’ reminder that there is none like us, anywhere in this world!

And now, this month; at the end of the year 2020, I’d like you to think about who you are not. It may seem sobering, but I think it fits right in with whatever whimsical thoughts might be floating around in this season. Being fearlessly authentic isn’t always the fun stuff, or the blood pumping stuff. And right before we go and make out-of-the-way resolutions, this is me with the brake light saying STOP!

There is nothing wrong with becoming, achieving, all of that. That’s not what I’m getting at here. I think that just as we know who we are, instinctively; even though it takes some hard thought to articulate in certain situations, we also know who we are not. Opportunities find their way into my life and my inbox, and it takes everything I have to not engage them all.

I don’t think we need to wait for situations to help tell us who we are not, we can take time to sit and think. Of course, again, there is so much that we are made of. So, don’t despair if you don’t have all the answers in a single sitting. The journey to self-awareness is long, ladies! All I’m asking is that we keep walking. As we make resolutions, as the year runs out, let’s be clearer, even a little bit; on who we are not.
